Emma Jones, aged 20 from Elsing in Norfolk, is a second year student studying Agriculture with Crop Management and is the recipient of the Paul Singleton Scholarship.
“Since moving onto the farm I have fallen in love with every aspect of agriculture, which is why I chose to study at Harper Adams University and pursue a career in this industry. I chose to study Agriculture with Crop Management because I feel very passionate about learning and educating myself with new farming methods so that I can be part of our farm’s progression into the future.
“After successfully achieving a Senior Commendation in first year, I am aspiring to graduate with a First-class honours degree and have the knowledge and confidence in the subject to be able to pursue a career in agronomy. I am also hoping to gain FACTS and BASIS qualifications after graduation as these will allow me to pursue a career in agronomy.
“This scholarship will not only relieve financial pressure during second year and placement, but it will also make a great impact on my Curriculum Vitae and employability in the future. After successfully passing PA1 in first year I am hoping to gain more land-based qualifications such as PA2, PA4 and PA6, which thanks to receiving the Paul Singleton Award, I am now able to do. Receiving this scholarship will also help me during my placement year with living costs because I will be working for Syngenta which is based in Cambridge. Therefore, this award will relieve financial pressures and allow me to completely focus on my placement.
“I would like to thank Paul for offering this scholarship and the Development Trust for the support I received when applying for scholarships.”
Aside from her studies, Emma is secretary for the netball team at Harper Adams as well as recently starting clay pigeon shooting. She now represents Harper Adams in clay pigeon shooting competitions around the UK.
